James was the project architect and ‘design lead’ for this ‘Design and Build’ development in Hackney, which saw the internal fit out of a new build ‘shell and core’ office space nestled in the context of a larger masterplan for the area.
Whilst a seemingly clean canvas, the site came with its’ own specific parameters and constraints including pre-existing structural columns and benefitting from access to daylight on only two facades.
The design solution saw the creation of a central administrative ‘pod’ and circulation space, surrounded by the offices and separated by ‘crittal-type’ internal glazed partitions.
Aside from the introduction of internal glazing and the timber clad amorphous hub, the original concrete and block work material palette of the building structure is left exposed and celebrated.
