This roof extension project in South London demonstrates what can be achieved through ‘Permitted Development Rights’ to maximise usable floor area, and without replicating ‘the norm’.

Our client wished to expose and express elements of structure in the extension, as well as the original terrace property. White painted internal brick work is offset against the clean and specially constructed timber roof joists, and a new bespoke ‘slatted’ timber staircase clearly delineates between old and new areas of the dwelling.

Allen Architects worked directly with our client to ensure buildability and compliance with relevant building codes, whilst delivering upon the design intent. Our client deserves special credit for the interior design, selection of fixtures and finishes which sit perfectly in the architecture of the spaces we created.
