dickens rise.

This playful rear extension to a semi-detached property in Enfield, was developed through the exploration of design ideas in physical, cardboard model form.

Physical models allow for quick and messy prototypes and are invaluable in the generation of more complex or unusual geometries. Working with out clients, the design development here led us to this twist on a traditional mono pitch/lean-to extension with the introduction of what were fondly referred to as ‘cat’s ears rooflights’.
Daylight and the contrast of shadows formed through the ‘cut outs’ accentuate the volume of the space and make for a dramatic interior serving the open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas.
