James was involved with this exciting project from inception through to final completion, preparing the original cardboard sketch design prototypes and developing those into a fully resolved technical design.

Gresford Architects successfully gained planning permission for this unique extension to a ‘locally listed’ building in a Lewisham Conservation Area. The design evolved through a series of maquettes, all seeking to respond to our client’s brief to create a dramatic and sculptural space, contrasting areas of light and shadow.

This was achieved through multi-faceted roof structures, split through the depth of the extension to create non-linear or ‘organic’ clerestory windows.

The project involved complex geometries, a careful eye for detailing as well as a main contractor who was fully dedicated to delivering the original design intent in the as-constructed spaces. The final construction and space created is a testament to the efforts of those involved.
